Bethesda Children Ministry

Mission statement

To share Gods Love to the destitute children in the streets of Nakuru in order to reestablish their lost hope and restoring their dignity, through Rescuing, Rehabilitating and Reintegrating them back to the society again.

Activities

Bethesda Children Ministry consist of five different activities and each one of them act as a link in a chain that starts where the person is, that is on the street, and ends when the child/youth is reintegrated back to the community again after the rehabilitation. Usually we meet most of the children/youth we are working with in all activities. It usually takes a long time of building trust and a lot of motivation before the child is ready to leave the street life. If we take a child to the Bethesda Centre when he is not motivated enough it will not take long before he will return to the street again. So we try to work hard with the child’s own wish to change his lifestyle. If somebody has the strength to leave the street he is to expect a hard fight against street and drugs. Most of them relapse once or many times and go back to the street again. When relapsing occurs we keep contact with the child/youth in order to motivate him/her to return to Bethesda. We focus on the individual child and we want our ministry to be flexible so as to fit the child’s individual needs and wishes. Some children that are ready to leave the street want to move home directly, with our support, others want to stay home and come to Bethesda for day rehabilitation, but mostly there is a need to stay for some time at Bethesda for rehabilitation. Even in the process of reintegration back to family/community we focus on the individuals wishes and needs. If we hurry in that process the result might be opposite and the child might relapse again.
